Imagine driving down the interstate behind a tractor trailer and being able to see right through the truck. This may be the new trend in the trucking industry according to some online bloggers. Samsung is well known for their electronics and household appliances, but they have also been developing new technology for safer roadways.
Introducing the Samsung Safety Truck…
With wireless cameras located on the front of the truck, there is a video feed that projects to the screen on the back. Samsung has released several prototypes over the past few years, but their most recent release has been all over the tech news.
While many people may see this as a great tool for keeping our roadways safe, the gigantic screen could also be a distraction to other drivers who share the road. Samsung has tested a prototype truck in Argentina where traffic accidents are among the highest in the world, “most of these accidents occurring on two-lane roads and particularly in situations of overtaking.” The idea behind this concept is it would allow the driver to see what is going on ahead of the truck and help them make a decision if passing is a safe idea or not. According to Samsung, “it could also reduce the risk of accidents caused by sudden braking or animals crossing the road.” The video screen and camera system would also operate in day light and night time as well due to night vision cameras.
The evolution of the trucking industry is ever changing thanks to technology. New prototype trucks are continuously being put on the roadways. Smart trucks, mirrorless trucks, automated trucks and now the Samsung safety truck. Our road systems may look a lot different 20 years from now.
