Guttman Energy is regarded as one of the most trusted fueling solution providers in the Northeast. We’ve been fueling fleets and offering customized fuel programs since our founding in 1931! Here’s a bit of insight into the history of Guttman Energy and how it has transformed from a small business into a multi-state enterprise.

The Founding of Guttman Energy

Guttman Super Service began with a single gas station in McKeesport, Pennsylvania. Jacob Guttman, the company’s founder, had an intense passion for fuel services, and in 1940, he was granted a full-line Texaco distributorship to market fuels and lubricants throughout the county.

In 1947 The Guttman business expanded to northwestern PA and eastern OH by acquiring Mercer County Oil Company. It was later renamed Guttman Petroleum Company.

In 1950 Guttman Realty Company is created to own, lease and develop properties for service stations and other businesses.

By 1960, the company was also serving clients in West Virginia. Guttman also began working with Mon River Towing to start transporting bulk quantities of petroleum.

Continuing to Grow

1984 was a critical year for Guttman (known then as Guttman Oil), as the company entered the convenience store market, eventually building a chain of 28 Crossroads Food Marts.

In 1989, Guttman Energy expanded its offerings by introducing our one-of-a-kind fuel card program. Our fuel card allows fleet owners to track expenses easily, run reports at the click of a mouse, and always stay on track with their budgets. Customers enjoy services with no contracts or hidden fees.

Source One Transportation was created in 2001, a new division of Guttman Oil. Source One continues to be successful in serving clients around parts of Pennsylvania and Ohio.

In 2022, Guttman expanded even further. As the world continues to deal with the climate crisis, Guttman is doing its part through the Guttman Renewables branch.

Guttman Renewables, Guttman Energy, and Source One Transportation combine to form Guttman Holdings as part of an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP). This new venture allows us to better serve our clients and grow our companies in a way that’s efficient and fulfilling for customers and employees alike.
