As employees of Guttman Energy, we recognize our company is only as strong as the communities around us. Knowing this, we often use our resources by serving communities and areas we operate in, partnering with many local charities and philanthropic initiatives that align with our core values. Therefore, we would like to spotlight one of our outreach initiatives: our annual Cereal Drive, in partnership with the Bag Brigade, a local hunger outreach program.
Every year, our team members hold a cereal donation drive at our office in Belle Vernon. We ask that everyone bring in boxes of cereal that will be donated to the Bag Brigade for their annual event. These boxes of cereal are then taken to Marion Elementary, and the children there will line each box up to create a massive “domino fall” for the whole school to see. The children love this event, but it doesn’t stop there. After the domino fall, the boxes are gathered up by the Bag Brigade and donated to families around the Mon Valley region community facing food insecurity.
Founded by just two volunteers in 2016, the Bag Brigade has grown into a city-wide outreach program, providing food to children and families in need throughout the Belle Vernon School District. Realizing food insecurity and hunger are growing problems here in our own backyard, Guttman Energy was moved to partner with this initiative. Since then, our team members have organized food collection drives for the community, in addition to financially supporting the organization as a company.
Last year, our Cereal Drive raised 210 boxes of cereal to be donated and distributed. This year we surpassed last year’s number and collected over 500 boxes.
