It is that time of year where the holidays are starting to begin! Even with restrictions and guidelines that COVID – 19 brought with 2020, many markets and businesses are closed for Thanksgiving, there is a lot that goes on behind the scenes to meet consumer needs. Let’s look at some of this year’s statistics.
On November 23, 2020 the American Trucking Association (ATA) forecasted that it will deliver the following, 46 million turkeys (1.4 billion pounds), 214 million pounds of potatoes, 50 million pounds of sweet potatoes, 19 million pumpkin pies, and 80 million pounds of cranberries, all to make sure that this gets to your dining room table for this Thursday’s Thanksgiving. These numbers are taken into account before the trucker strike is rumored to take place from November 26th – November 29th. The American Automobile Association (AAA) forecasts that less than 50 million Americans will be traveling this year for Thanksgiving, that is 10% less than 2019.
This Thanksgiving is going to be different than one’s we’ve seen before, but lets all make the best of it. Drive safe if you are traveling and be sure to practice CDC guidelines when around others. Let us not forget and give thanks to all the truckers out there who make this Thanksgiving possible!
