To keep you, our valued customer, as well-informed as possible, this is a reminder that summer-grade gas is almost here.
The EPA restricts the Reid Vapor Pressure (RVP) of conventional gasoline throughout the summer months to help reduce emissions. The lower RVP season lasts from June 1 through September 15 at retail locations and from May 1 through September 15 at terminals.
Please take note of the following regulations to help you prepare:
- The maximum RVP allowable during the June 1 through September 15 timeframe is 7.8 or 9.0 psi, depending on the area. The following southwestern PA counties fall under the more stringent 7.8 psi requirement: Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Fayette, Washington and Westmoreland.
- Federal regulations require that retail tanks be completely converted to the lower RVP gasoline by June 1. As part of this transition, terminals are required to dispense the lower RVP product beginning May 1. This means that, starting on May 1, no supplier can deliver higher RVP gasoline to you in any of the affected counties, regardless of how fast you can turn your tank.
