This week the United States passed 500,000 Covid-19 related deaths, a devastating milestone. While we continue our fight against this global pandemic, there are signs that things will get better sooner rather than later. Today the FDA endorsed Johnson & Johnson’s Covid-19 vaccine for emergency use. This is welcomed news for the fight against Covid-19 and critical step in getting back to a sense of normalcy. With this endorsement this now brings a third vaccine to the U.S. marketplace with the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines already being rolled out.
According to the FDA it determined that the clinical trial results and safety data were “consistent with the recommendations set forth in FDA’s guidance Emergency Use Authorization for Vaccines to Prevent COVID-19.”
Prior to this endorsement Johnson and Johnson said it could hand over four million single shot doses upon approval of the vaccine. Johnson and Johnson also plans to deliver 20 million doses in total by late March, and 100 million doses by the end of June to the United States. With this commitment from Johnson and Johnson in addition to the other vaccines on the market already, many are starting to gain hope of a quicker return to normalcy.
