Is November 13th too early for a severe cold snap? For those waking up to a 12 degree morning here in the Pittsburgh area, the answer would be yes. It would be yes, yes, and yes for more than a century of consecutive years as today marks the coldest day in Pittsburgh history for November 13th since 1911. With wind chills in the single digits, we imagine that those reading this thought of winter additive when they walked outside this morning.
However, for those who read our blog yesterday, this should not come as much of a surprise.

In the display above you will find that the temperature outlook for our region is projected to be 33-40 degrees for December thru February. To put into perspective as to how unusual this morning was, the 12 degrees mark today is 21-28 degrees colder than the projection displayed above. Especially being that it’s only November!
While the arctic mass that blasted into the region this morning has brought school closures, icy roads, and don’t forget the always important need for winterized fuel, we can expect the temperatures to make it back to near 30 degrees this afternoon.
