Construction Company that uses Guttman Energy Fuel Fleet Card

Case Study: Fuel Delivery Services in the Construction Sector

All industries have their own unique needs and expectations when it comes to fuel delivery. Luckily, the team at Guttman has experience working with all kinds of companies from various industries, so we can work to create a customized fuel management plan for each client. Recently, we were able to help a major construction company from the Northeast to transform their fuel services, resulting in a more efficient operation overall.

The Problem

Our client has been in the construction industry for over 90 years and is recognized as one of the top earthmoving general contractors in West Virginia, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. The company came to us because they were unhappy with their previous gas suppliers. Namely, it was incredibly difficult for the client to accurately predict and track fuel costs. The process to lock in fuel prices was complicated and involved lots of people, making it easy to get confused.

In addition, the client was concerned about the conditions of their fuel tanks. The previous fuel supplier did not monitor the tanks for water or microbials, or any other substance that could compromise the quality of the fuel. Considering the client had to purchase a specific diesel fuel designed for harsh winter conditions, the fuel quality was of utmost important.

The Solution

Guttman Energy worked hard with this client to establish a fuel delivery and maintenance system that is both affordable and efficient. We began with a needs assessment, allowing us to fully understand our client’s concerns. Once we came to an agreement on our personalized plan, we began by creating a premium diesel fuel designed for the winter conditions that the client faced. The client thought long and hard about the rest of their fuel delivery issues and decided to allow Guttman to handle their entire fuel management process.

Before we ever made a project bid for our client, we spoke with them to set a benchmark fuel price based on anticipated fuel usage and the project terms. We also took likely fluctuations into account to provide a more accurate picture of the fuel they could expect to use on a certain project. For each job the customer secured, Guttman representatives visited the site, checked the bulk fuel systems, looked for any signs of fuel contamination, and ensured the fuel could be transferred safely.
