2019’s Top 10 Critical Issues Facing The Trucking Industry

As 2019 winds down, here are the main issues that faced the trucking industry this year according to  a survey conducted by the American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI). As expected, driver compensation was the most critical issue in the trucking industry for commercial drivers in 2019. The top issue for motor carriers was finding drivers due to a driver shortage.

Below, is a list of the top ten issues for commercial drivers (as reported by drivers) in 2019:

5.       Detention/Delay at Customer Facilities

7.       Driver Training Standards

8.       Driver Distraction

10.   Autonomous Truck Technology

The ATRI also took a poll to find out the top ten concerns for motor carriers. The results are listed below:

The above lists were gathered from over 2000 motor carriers and commercial drivers. 2019 was a challenging year for the trucking industry and for the second year in a row, driver shortage and retention remain at the top of the list of critical issues.
