POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Risk Analyst position is a member of Guttman Energy’s commodity risk management team working closely with sales, supply, and the mid-office and accounting teams in assessing, monitoring and reporting financial risk for Guttman Energy’s commodity portfolio. This is an Exempt position and will report to the Corporate Risk Officer. The Risk Analyst position will be located in Bel Air, MD.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Substantiate Enterprise Trading Risk Management system generated P&L.
  • Produce accurate and timely daily trading P&L and Risk Position reports, assess key drivers, and provide daily management commentary.
  • Develop and validate pricing inputs; and ensure the accuracy and timely entry of curves to value physical and financial positions.
  • Review new business activity, validate accuracy of trade entry and day one P&L, analyze day-over-day changes in physical and financial trading risk positions, determine impacts to reported P&L, review deal amendments and/or deal cancellations and assess impact to risk positions, portfolio valuation and resulting P&L.
  • Work with the Front Office to reconcile ETRM system generated P&L and positions with Front Office estimates.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve deal entry, scheduling/actualization, pricing, and/or risk system issues.
  • Reconcile derivative activity with the broker daily.
  • Code and maintain exceptionally complex VBA macros in Excel, update and maintain SQL queries as well as stored procedures.
  • Work closely with IT to develop and design analytical tools and improve underlying risk system infrastructure (models, calculations, data flows, reports, etc.)
  • Provide assistance with ad-hoc inquiries and support both the Front Office and Accounting teams with key initiatives and projects.
  • Prepare analyses as requested by sales, supply, or management relating to performance within an existing strategy or historical modeling of a proposed sales or supply strategy.
  • Maintain a robust independent trade control environment.
  • Continuously improve and streamline existing processes.
  • Communicate effectively with Front Office, Operations, and Finance.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Four-year degree from an accredited university in engineering, finance, economics, mathematics or a similar discipline.
  • 0-3 years of experience in commodity risk management
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Advanced knowledge of VBA macros in Excel required.
  • Display exceptional attention to detail and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong written, report presentation and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas to a variety of audiences
  • Self-starting, team focused attitude.
  • Proven analytical and creative problem-solving abilities, and ability to maintain detail-orientation in high-pressure situations.
  • Highly motivated self-starter who is flexible and goal oriented.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • General understanding of commodity derivatives and energy markets.
  • Knowledge of the Petroleum or Energy Industry.
  • Experience with SQL.
  • Experience with ETRM systems, specifically OpenLink RightAngle.
