Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
Alan Guttman is the Chief Executive Officer of Guttman Energy, Inc. Founded in 1931, Guttman Energy provides energy solutions including petroleum products and natural gas to commercial, wholesale and retail markets. Guttman Energy consists of two business units: the Fuels Division (formerly Guttman Oil Company) and the Natural Gas Division. Alan started his career with Guttman Energy in 1972.
Guttman Energy is one of a group of family-owned companies known as The Guttman Group. The Guttman Group consists of Guttman Energy, Source One Transportation, LLC, and Guttman Realty Company.
In addition to his family-owned companies’ boards, Alan also serves on the boards of directors of Giant Eagle, Inc., Gateway Bank of Pennsylvania, The Hite Company, UPMC Health System, Pittsburgh Regional Health Initiative, and is chairman of the board of the Jewish Healthcare Foundation of Pittsburgh.
Alan received his Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from Penn State University and his Juris Doctor degree from George Washington University Law School.
President of Guttman Realty and Grandview Barge Line, Inc.
James Guttman is the President of Guttman Realty, the President of Grandview Barge Line, Inc., and the Vice President of Guttman Energy, Inc. headquartered in Belle Vernon, PA. Previously James was President of Mon River Towing.
James has served as President of the Waterways Association of Pittsburgh, president of the River Terminal Operators of Pittsburgh, and board member of the American Waterways Operators. He is on the Boards of Directors of the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation and the Pittsburgh Maritime Club, and is the President of the Traffic Club of Pittsburgh.
James received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in History from George Washington University and his Juris Doctor Degree from George Mason University School of Law.

Richard Guttman is the President of Guttman Energy, Inc., and Source One Transportation, LLC.
Richard has served in numerous capacities in both industry and philanthropic organizations. He has served on the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection Alternative Energy Advisory Board and is a current member of the World Presidents' Organization. He has served on the board and as Chairman of the Pennsylvania Convenience Store Council, is a member of the Pennsylvania Food Merchants Association, and served as State Motor Fuel Chairman for the Pennsylvania Petroleum Association. Richard has also served on the board of directors of the United Way of the Mon Valley and currently serves on the board of directors of the Jewish Community Center of Greater Pittsburgh and the Advisory Board of the University of Pittsburgh’s Institute for Entrepreneurial Excellence.
Richard received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Tufts University and his Master in Business Administration degree from the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Business.
President and Chief Operating Officer
Scott Cargile is President and Chief Operating Officer of Guttman Energy, Inc. Scott joined Guttman Energy as Executive Vice President Supply & Distribution in August 2011.
In addition to his work with Guttman Energy, Scott has 30 years of experience in the energy business through his employment with Texaco and Chevron, including 20 years in Supply & Trading. Scott was a VP of Chevron Products Company, a Division of Chevron USA, since the merger of Chevron and Texaco in 2001. As VP, his roles included Vice President, Risk Management & Financial Trading, and General Manager, Product Supply & Trading – Americas.
Scott also has eight years of experience in Marketing, including general manager roles in Chevron Global Aviation Sales and as Vice President of Texaco Aviation Sales, LLC.
Scott received his Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from Brown University.
Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer
Raymond Horsmon is Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of The Guttman Group. Prior to assuming that role he worked with Control Solutions, a subsidiary of DQE Energy, The Mulach Companies and Eichleay Corporation.
Ray has more than 30 years of experience in a variety of industries including commodity products wholesaling/distribution, job shop manufacturing, real estate development and construction. For the last 20 years he has held senior management roles both as president and chief financial officer responsible for operations, sales/marketing, strategic and business planning, budgeting, corporate accounting and administration, human resources, legal, treasury and risk management, and information systems functions.
His community involvement includes membership on the board of directors of CASA of Allegheny County and the board of directors of Sewickley Heights Golf Club.
Ray is a graduate of the Pennsylvania State University, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. He earned his Master of Business Administration degree from Carnegie Mellon University and has been a licensed CPA since 1984.
Executive Vice President of Business Services
Shanda Dixon is Executive Vice President of Business Services of Guttman Energy, Inc., with responsibility for information technology, risk management and inventory control.
Shanda has over 25 years of industry experience in supply and trading, risk management and system implementations. Before joining Guttman Energy in October 2016, Shanda was Manager of the Trading and Risk Management Center of Excellence at Chevron, a role in which she was responsible for Chevron’s Global Supply and Trading governance model for systems, business processes, organizational capability and change management. Prior to this role, Shanda’s roles at Chevron included Manager, Supply Exposure Management; Trading Manager, Americas Middle Distillates; and Manager. Americas Risk Control.
Shanda has a Bachelor of Science degree in Operations Management and Information Systems from Bradley University and a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Northwestern University, Kellogg Graduate School of Management.
Executive Vice President, Sales & Marketing
Mark Harper is the Executive Vice President, Sales & Marketing of Guttman Energy, Inc. He joined the Company in October 2013.
Mark has 28 years of experience in the energy business, serving in a variety of strategic sales and marketing roles. Prior to joining Guttman Energy, Mark was president of U.S. marketing at ConocoPhillips. Mark’s previous roles in the industry include vice president of branded wholesale marketing at Phillips, several executive positions at Tosco Corporation and numerous roles at BP America.
In addition Mark was the CEO and owner of a large petroleum distribution company in the southeast United States and spent time with BJ’s Wholesale Club as Vice President, Petroleum, Propane and Tire Bays.
Mark currently serves on the board of directors of the Ohio Petroleum Marketers & Convenience Store Association.
Mark received his Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Toledo.
Executive Vice President of Transportation and Terminals
Gary Smelko is Executive Vice President of Transportation and Terminals for Guttman Energy, Inc. In this role, he is responsible for the operational and financial performance of Guttman's sister companies, Source One Transportation and Bulk Terminal Storage. Gary joined Guttman Energy in 2003 as EVP of Marketing and has also served at Guttman as EVP Fuel Sales and EVP of the Natural Gas and Power division while it was in its infancy.
Prior to joining Guttman, Gary worked in diverse industries at companies that include Freemarkets, Inc., PNC Bank, and FedEx Ground. Key areas of responsibility and experience throughout his career have included strategic planning, new product development, market research, marketing communications, sales management, business development, logistics, operations and corporate safety.
Gary is a graduate of the Pennsylvania State University, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing and earned his Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Pittsburgh.
Senior Vice President
Art Benson is a Senior VP with Guttman Energy. He heads the East Coast operation in Bel Air, Maryland, where he and his team joined Guttman in 2006. His leadership has provided rapid expansion of Guttman’s business while at the same time protecting and growing margins for his customers. Art has more than 40 years of experience in the energy business and has held senior marketing and executive positions in a number of oil companies, including President of MG Refining & Marketing and Executive VP of Louis Dreyfus Energy Corp. He is a pioneer of using the commodity market to manage price risk for refined products and has developed many innovative marketing programs for wholesalers and end-users over his career.
Art is also active in the community, serving on the boards for a local church and school. He is a graduate of Baltimore College of Commerce.
Vice President of Supply and Program Sales
Bill Benson is Vice President of Supply and Program Sales for Guttman Energy. Bill heads the supply team in Bel Air, Maryland, and is the trader for all of the products sourced by Guttman Energy's East Coast branch. Bill started in the industry in 1989 with Louis Dreyfus Energy Corp., establishing their products trading desk and later becoming the head gasoline trader with supply responsibly for the physical marketing business. Over the past 25 years, Bill has used his experience to be an effective liaison between supply and marketing.
Bill is an active leader in community athletics, having served on the board of Bel Air Recreation as well as the Chair of their youth baseball program for 10 years. He was also the head of the Booster Club at Patterson Mill High School as well as a long-time coach for youth baseball.
Bill is a graduate of Western Maryland College with a degree in Business Administration and Economics.
Vice President Supply
Louis Quarto is Vice President Supply of Guttman Energy, Inc. He has held that position for five of his 30 years with Guttman Energy. Prior to his current role, he was the Vice President Wholesale Sales and Supply. Additional positions Louis has held at Guttman include General Manager of Supply and Bulk Terminal Storage, General Manager of Fuels, and General Manager Wholesale Fuels, Inside Sales & Customer Service.
Louis' community involvement includes Treasurer and Secretary of the Mon Valley Progress Council Executive Committee.
He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Slippery Rock University.
Vice President of Supply and Trading
Shauna Huzicko is Vice President of Supply and Trading at Guttman Energy, Inc. Shauna joined Guttman Energy as Director of Supply & Trading in October 2012.
In addition to her work with Guttman Energy, Shauna has 20 years of experience in the energy business through her employment with Shell, Equiva (a Shell-Texaco Joint Venture company), USA Petroleum and Alon USA. For 18 years Shauna performed various Supply & Trading roles in Houston and Los Angeles. Her roles in this area included trading the West Coast products and feedstocks system for Shell and Equiva, establishing and executing a risk management strategy at USA Petroleum, and trading products and managing business development for Alon USA.
Shauna received her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Logistics from Penn State University and her MBA from the University of Southern California.
Vice President Fleet Card Sales
Larry Flannelly is Vice President Fleet Card Sales for Guttman Energy, Inc. Larry joined Guttman Oil Company as General Sales Manager in April 1996.
In addition to his work with Guttman Energy, Larry has 18 years of experience in the petroleum industry through his employment with Quaker State Corporation. He held various regional sales and operations management positions with Quaker State during in Philadelphia, New Jersey, upstate New York, New York metro, and central U.S. markets. After joining Guttman, Larry was responsible for all commercial sales of the Lubricants Division, Card Access Fuels and Branch operations of the Company. He became Vice President of Commercial Sales in 2000 and is responsible for commercial sales growth throughout the Company.
Larry received his Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing from Villanova University.
Fuels Division - Director of Supply & Business Development
Jeff Plymell is Director of Supply & Business Development. His responsibilities include bids and risk management programs for customers. Prior to this role, Jeff managed the bulk purchase of distillates, purchase of biofuels and respective RFS compliance, risk management of distillate inventories, and value-added trading.
With 25 years of industry experience, Jeff has worked in all aspects of operations, including vessel/barges, pipeline and truck/rail; trading finished products, VGO, naphtha and 6 oil in the Gulf Coast, Chicago, New York Harbor and EC Canada; negotiation of insurance, quality and demurrage claims; and responsibility for MTM and P&L reports. Prior to joining Guttman Energy, Jeff held the roles of Director of Supply & Trading at Atlas Oil Company and Distillate/Feedstock Trader at Neste Oil.
Jeff graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Rice University.
Director of Risk Management
Jeff Roberts is Director of Risk Management with Guttman Energy. He is located at our East Coast branch in Bel Air, Maryland. He is responsible for the analytical functions for the company, including commodity market analysis, evaluation of potential programs, and position exposure. He has 15 years of experience in the energy industry with Guttman and prior to that as a VP with Energy Merchant, LLC. Jeff also has 13 years of experience in engineering and manufacturing of advanced materials with Cytec Industries.
Jeff holds credentials from several professional organizations, including the designations of Chartered Financial Analyst®, Professional Risk ManagerTM, Financial Risk Manager® and Energy Risk Professional®.
Jeff earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from Virginia Tech and his Master of Business Administration from the University of Pittsburgh.
